In collaboration between Çukurova University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Textile and Fashion Design, and the Kıvanç Tekstil Design Center, the “Creativity and Industry in Weaving Design Project” was carried out, focusing on strengthening university–industry cooperation.
Within the scope of the Weaving Design 4 course, supervised by Prof. Havva Halaçeli Metlioğlu and assisted by Res. Assist. Hale Yılmaz, third-year students created weaving designs using yarns provided by the Kıvanç Tekstil Design Center in the trend colors of 2022.
As part of the project, students were asked to select a theme using a metaphorical expression method. Based on these themes, they designed double-layer reversible garment fabrics using color weave effects.
Upon Kıvanç Tekstil’s invitation, students visited the company accompanied by Product Development Manager Gülsen Bağcı Özdem and Product Development Specialist Büşra Çeltikçi. Following the visit, they delivered presentations explaining their chosen themes and woven fabric designs. Among the 14 participating students, four were selected, and one fabric design from each was produced industrially at Kıvanç Tekstil, with the students witnessing the production process firsthand.
Providing insight into the project, Prof. Havva Halaçeli Metlioğlu stated that the initiative allowed students to see the industrial interpretation of their handwoven fabrics produced on sample looms, while also enabling them to take part in the production process within an industrial environment.
